THE  EXPERIMENTAL VOICE

A relaxed and social series of six workshops to sing, listen and experiment with the embodiment of song.

Sun 18 Feb to Sun 24 Mar 2024

3:00 to 5:00 pm

These workshops take place in the 120 year old dwelling that is now the award winning home of Woollahra Gallery, surrounded by lush gardens and Sydney harbour views. From here we will:

  • Use sound and singing to connect with ourselves, our histories, our environment and each other.

  • Explore psychoacoustics to help us sing mindfully in the moment.

  • Deeply listen to be inspired by the art of song.

  • Experiment with composition to find the song within us.

  • Explore the phenomena of melody within the world around us.

A willingness to test new ideas, techniques and ways of singing essential.

Facilitator:

Jacqui O’Reilly is an artist, researcher and musician from Aotearoa New Zealand, now based in Sydney on the land of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. Jacqui is interested in the creative act as acknowledgement of what has happened in the past and what could happen in the future through attunement with the here and now and the more-than-human world. Her practice led research explores relations between people, place, media and perception through composition, installation and performance works. This includes the sculpting of sound and the altering of moving image, as well as practising experimental methods across multiple art forms. Jacqui holds a BA Media Arts (Honours) from UNSW Art, Design & Architecture and works on a range of projects at Church Street Studios in Camperdown.
