Pulse & Pressure is a site-specific sound performance created for Working Memory, presented by Inner West Council as part of the 25th Biennale of Sydney, Rememory.

The work transformed the White Bay Power Station Control Room and Boiler House into a responsive listening environment. Live voice, experimental song, embodied sound, and spatial audio were composed and mixed in real time as a roaming performer activated the acoustics of the building.

 

Sounds gathered throughout the site were transmitted back to the Control Room, where they became part of an evolving live soundscape broadcast via FM radio to wireless headphones.

Pulse & Pressure invited multiple modes of listening, movement and stillness. The performance explored memory, transmission and perception through deep listening, revealing the industrial architecture as an active acoustic instrument and encouraging audiences to encounter White Bay Power Station through sound, resonance, history and embodied attention.
