Time as a Sonic Gesture is a sound-based performance that explores perception, presence and sensory resonance. Using body, memory and motion as the compositional site, the work unfolded as an immersive, long-form soundscape over three hours, delivered through wireless headphones, inviting meditative attention and intimate listening.

Developed in response to Katelyn Geard’s drawing I Have Something to Say, exhibited in the group show GRAPHITE at DRAW Space (2024), the work draws on the notion of “persistence of vision” to explore time as a transdisciplinary gesture. It continues O’Reilly’s interest in sound as material, and in the subtle thresholds of sensory experience.

Guest artists Laura Altman and Alexandra Spence joined O’Reilly in building a responsive sonic environment through live improvisation and layered spatial composition. The performance was curated by Belinda Yee as part of an ongoing series examining the relationship between drawing and sound, and was supported by an Inner West Council Arts Grant.
